Anubias Barteri, What Makes Them Thrive

The easiest way to take care of Anubias Barteri, especially in the early stages, is to give them any light and keep them in a tank at 72 degrees Fahrenheit with a pH of 6.5 to 7.8. This is the minimum if you want to ensure that the Anubias Barteri receives its basic needs.

The following will explain what environmental factors will aid or hinder your Anubias’ growth and how to propagate the plant species.

What Are Some Essential Factors Anubias Barteri Needs to Thrive Environmentally?

For your Anubias Barteri to thrive, the following elements and systems must be present throughout their immediate environment:

Light: the Anubias Barteri don’t require much light to thrive. Of course, the more light they have, the more likely they will grow rapidly and flourish. As for the amount of time, whichever amount of light your surrounding aquatic life requires will suffice.

Water: Water should be relatively clean. If the water conditions are unsuitable for your aquatic animals, it’s likely not ideal for your Anubias Barteri.

pH levels: In terms of pH, the optimal pH level for Anubias Barteri is between 6.5 and 7.8. This is standard among tank plants, and seeing the broad range, it will be compatible with many other plants and animals within your ecosystem.

Temperature: The optimal temperatures for an Anubias Barteri are between seventy-two and seventy-eight degrees Fahrenheit, which is seventy-two to seventy-eight degrees celsius. Invest in a quality aquarium thermometer to ensure your tank remains between these temperatures. You can purchase one both in-store and online.

Keep this temperature in mind when purchasing other plants and aquatic life, as merely going slightly below or above these temperatures can affect your aquarium’s quality and livability.

For example, you should not purchase a fish that requires a specific temperature incompatible with the Anubias Barteri because you will have to decide which one will not meet their needs. This can result in one of the two species passing away, as the water temperature is a significant factor.

Tank size: The recommended tank size for an Anubias Barteri can range from smaller thanks to huge ones. This Anubias Barteri is among the most common aquarium plants. They are basic yet aesthetically appealing, providing the surrounding aquatic life with nutrients and allowing your tank to have a semblance of a natural ecosystem. Overall, these plants are not particular when it comes to tank size.

What Are Some Products/tools I Need when Taking Care of Anubias Barteri:

Why Isn’t My Anubias Barteri Growing?

Your Anubias Barteri could be stunted or unable to grow for various reasons. Some indications of your Anubias Barteri requiring more attention in a particular aspect go as follows:

The water quality is incompatible with the plant: Although your fish might not need the water to be super fresh and clean, the Anubias Barteri requires a certain level of cleanliness. Put a small glass into the tank and then take it out. If the water comes out gooky and awful, it’s about time you change the water altogether. You should also invest in a water filter! It makes it so that you won’t have to go through such a process as often.

The pH levels are incompatible with the plant: This aquarium plant requires a pH level of 6.5 to 7.8. Much like those mentioned above, considering pH levels is unavoidable as this determines whether a life form can survive in a particular condition.

Your Anubias Barteri is not getting enough light. Most life requires a certain amount of light to survive, and these plants can grow and thrive in various lighting.

The less light this plant has, the longer it will take to grow. If you have a low-light tank, they will grow slower. This might be why your Anubias seem like it isn’t growing.

You have been replanting and placing your plant too often. Replanting once or twice is one thing, but constantly moving the Anubias will not help your plant grow. These plants require a certain amount of stability, and in their earliest stages, constant replanting can even result in the plant dying.

How Do I Propagate Anubias Barteri?

Here is a step-by-step tutorial on how to propagate your Anubias Barteri:

The first step is to cut the Rhizomes. The best way to go about this process is to take the plant out of the water and place it on a stable surface. Get a sharp tool, whether a blade or a pair of scissors and cut the small rhizomes out from the plant’s roots.

When going about this, be wary of the roots because your goal is only to cut the tiny leaves by the roots. Any damage to the roots could severely impact the original Anubias Barteri.

You should be able to get around three to even as many as six or seven cuts from this. If you do not want to do this, you can just put them in the tank immediately because that is fine if you already know where to place them.

If you are unsure where to place them, these rhizomes can then be placed into cups or vases of water so that the plant has time to grow a little before being planted into the tank.

After you’ve cut all of the rhizomes you could find and safely dissect, you may now place the original plant back into the tank.

Propagation is fantastic because, as you know, you can get multiple free and new Aubias.’
